ELIGIBILITY & PRIORITIZATION CRITERIA FOR ORANGE COUNTY COMMUNITY BAIL FUND

Application Stipulations/Requirements

• Bail of $5,000 or less. We do not cover bondsmen fees.
• Must live in Orange County, NC
• Fund only operates for Orange County, NC, charges
• The person has no hold that would preclude their release
• Phone number where we can text court reminders and provide support (and/or email address)

Prioritization Criteria (considerations in setting priorities among defendants, not requirements)

• Dependents or other family members who may be harmed by applicant’s detention
• Anticipated impact of detention on applicant’s employment, housing, education attainment, and/or custodial rights
• The person has no recent history of multiple failures to appear in court
• If domestic violence case, no history of protective orders taken out against the individual or violation of protective order (evaluated on a case-by-case basis)
• Special concerns or considerations regarding detainment.

Referrals are accepted from the Orange County Public Defender’s Office, Orange County Pre-Trial Release Services Program, OCBBJ volunteers, indigent persons, indigent persons’ counsel, family, and friends.
